In order to enhance development and improve scientific disciplines being studied at the University of Sarajevo, scientific-research/artistic-research activities are conducted at University member institutions – Faculties and Academies. The research areas cover the following sciences: Medical, Technical, Natural and Mathematics, Biotechnical, Social, Humanities and Arts.  In total, there are present 25 Institutes and Centers, including numerous laboratories at 23 University member institutions. Four Institutes have been established as affiliated institutions to the University.
