Two-Day Conference "B&H-Turkish Juridical Days" Began
Upon marking the 67th Anniversary of the UNSA Faculty of Law, on Friday 5 April 2013, a two-day Conference "B&H Turkish Juridical Days", organized by the UNSA Faculty of Law in cooperation with the Istanbul University Faculty of Law started. Prof. Dr. Borislav Petrovic, UNSA Faculty of Law Dean, UNSA Rector, Prof. Dr. Muharem Avdispahic, Prof. Dr. Adem Sözüer, Istanbul University Faulty of Law Dean and Ms. Yasemin Eralp, Deputy Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to B&H opened the Conference in the UNSA Rectorate’ Ceremonial Hall.
Dean Petrovic, emphasizing that UNSA Faculty of Law’s marking of the 67th Anniversary, said that in the past two years numerous academic activities, both of teaching and scientific-research nature, not just in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also abroad had been conducted. “After longer preparations, we have begun the third study cycle, and within the international exchange framework, we have accepted two PhD candidates from abroad” said Dean Petrovic and stated that international cooperation was steadily rising. In giving his speech, Dean Petrovic reminded attendees that at the Istanbul University Faculty of Law in May 2012 the Conference “Turkish-B&H Law Days” in May 2012 had taken place and announced that this would become a traditional international conference at which would each year current topics from Turkish and Bosnian criminal law and practice perspectives be discussed.
Along with expressing his congratulations upon the UNSA Faculty of Law’s Anniversary, Rector Prof. Dr. Muharem Avdispahic made an emphasis on the multifaceted ties between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Turkey, especially in the area of studying law, and pointed out a well designed structure of the aforesaid Conference. Speaking about the announced collaboration between the UNSA Faculty of Law and the Istanbul University Faculty of Law in the implementation of PhD studies, Rector Avdispahic expressed his hope that subject of cooperation would be the present legal challenges: the Constitution which is an annex of a peace agreement, the level of legal security in conditions of semi-protectorate in years after the war, to that what is the topic of the Conference’s second day - a joint aspiration to joining the European Union.
Dean Sözüer emphasized the value of student exchanges, saying that in the following years the number of scholarships for research work would increase. Emphasizing willingness to enable Ph.D. candidates to spend a part of their studies in Istanbul, Dean Sözüer expressed a desire for arrival of lecturers from the Istanbul University to Sarajevo. “Every aspect of our cooperation has resulted in some new knowledge, we have become richer for the experience and that is why we are exceptionally pleased by new collaboration with the UNSA Faculty of Law. Our wish is that our cooperation increases and be exemplary, not only in the region but also in Europe.“ said Dean Sözüer.
The successful work to the Conference participants wished Ms. Yasemin Eralp, Deputy Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to B&H and expressed her satisfaction because of this Conference, which brought together top experts from two renowned educational institutions. "When one places Bosnia and Herzegovina and Turkey in the same sentence the first association that comes is the cooperation and solidarity. Our goal is to transfer successful relationships and friendly spirit from areas of politics and economics to the areas of tourism, culture and education.“ noted Ms. Eralp.
The Conference’s focus is on topics from criminal law, while the design is based on the coverage of a particular topic from the perspective of Turkish and Bosnian law, which allows comparative and legal evaluation of certain problems.
