The 22nd UNSA Senate Session Held

 

The UNSA Senate held its regular 22nd Session on 4 June of 2014 with 15 agenda items.

At the meeting, Senators were informed about completed activities regarding the UNSA coordination for helping the population to repair the damage and clearing flooded areas. The University of Sarajevo, together with the UNSA Student Parliament made available over three thousand students and faculty members who volunteered for activities organized with the aim of helping the population, repairing the damage and clearing flooded areas.

Within the item “Founder’s debts for implementing the teaching - scientific process at the University of Sarajevo,” data related to the Cantonal government debt based on regular monthly subsidies from the budget to the University of Sarajevo were presented. It was also emphasized that the founder did not fulfill its obligations from 2013 year for the month of November, or the obligations from 2014 in the months of April and May.

Prof. Dr. Muharem Avdispahic, Dr. H. C., Rector, presented the decision on the appointment of Prof. Dr. Nusret Smajlovic at the position of the Dean of the UNSA Faculty of Sport and Physical Education, and Dr. Rasim Muratovic at the position of Director of the Institute for Research of Crimes against Humanity and International Law, University of Sarajevo.

Senators unanimously accepted the initiative for the awarding the University of Sarajevo recognition to Prof. Dr. Smail Cekic, Director of the Institute for Research of Crimes against Humanity and International Law, University of Sarajevo in the period 1992-2014, for his outstanding contribution to the establishment and operation of the Institute and achieved scientific research results in the areas of crimes against humanity and international law.

The Senate established a draft plan for enrollment of students in the first year of the first cycle of studies at the University of Sarajevo in the 2014/2015 academic year and a draft plan for enrollment of students in the first year of the second cycle of studies at the University of Sarajevo in the 2014/2015 academic year. The approved proposals will be submitted by the competent ministry at the Sarajevo Canton Government for obtain the necessary approvals.

The approval was given for the initiative by the UNSA Faculty of Dental Medicine with Clinics for amendments to the Decision on approval to the height of the participation of the fees, registration fees and other costs of study at the University of Sarajevo, as well at its Faculties and Academies. An initiative was also launched, harmonized with the proposals of the organizational units of the University of Sarajevo, to make innovated draft of the Decision on the amount of participation of the fees, registration fees and other costs of study at the University of Sarajevo, which will be submitted to the Sarajevo Canton Government for approval.

The UNSA Senate, under the item “Announcing the competition for candidates registering for the third cycle study”, gave consent to:
•    a call for competition for student enrollment in the third cycle studies within the Tempus project on cooperation with the University of Vienna and the University of Ljubljana and the UNSA School of Economics and Business in the 2014/2015 academic year
•    a call for competition for admission of II generation students at the interdisciplinary doctoral study “Contemporary preschool and elementary education” at the UNSA Faculty of Pedagogy in the academic 2014/2015 year
•    A call for competition for student enrollment in the third cycle studies - Doctoral degrees in Forestry and Horticulture UNSA Faculty of Forestry in the 2014/2015 academic.

The UNSA Senate gave approval to a competition for admission of students to the interdisciplinary master studies (4 +1); UNSA Faculty of Political Sciences follows:
•    “EUROPEAN INTEGRATION “- Department of Political Science and the Department of Safety and Peace Studies
•    “FAMILY AND SOCIETY” - Department of Sociology and Social Work Department
•    “CHILDREN AND YOUTH IN CONFLICT WITH THE LAW “ - Department of Social Work
•    “COMMUNICATION “- Department of Journalism
•    “NATIONAL SECURITY AND DEMOCRATIC SOCIETY “ - Section security and peace studies

At a meeting, 22 teachers from 10 UNSA Faculties and one Academy in Sarajevo were elected into academic titles. In addition, the Senate approved three choices in scientific titles.

The UNSA Senate issued a Decision on the contest for the election of academic staff at the: Academy of Fine Arts, School of Economics and Business, Faculties of Electrical Engineering, Political Sciences, Pharmacy, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Pedagogy, Natural Sciences and Mathematics and Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.

The senators were familiarized with the minutes of the meeting of the Commission for the allocation of the funds of the Federal Ministry of Education and Science for funding/co-funding of projects in the field of science projects and equipping the institutions of science, in which were asserted that after completing the internal call, the remitted funds will not be fully expended. The Senate approved the proposal of the Commission to publish a second internal call for the allocation of funds of the Federal Ministry of Education and Science for funding/co-funding of projects in the field of science and science projects to equip institutions.

Also, Senators were informed about the application of the University of Sarajevo in the competition of the Federal Ministry of Education and Science for funding/co-funding of scientific research and research and development projects in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the 2014.

At the meeting, Decisions were also made for 37 candidates in the process of acquiring a doctorate at eleven Faculties and one Academy.

The UNSA Senate under the item “Consents to curricula” gave consent to:
•    Changes to  Curriculum of the second cycle study - Acting at the Academy of Performing Arts, University of Sarajevo ,
•    The curriculum of the second cycle of study - HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT AND KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT Faculty of Economics, University of Sarajevo,
•    The curriculum of the second cycle of study - STRATEGIC ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND INNOVATION at the Faculty of Economics, University of Sarajevo ,
•    Changes to Curriculum for the third cycle (doctoral) studies in the scientific field of “social work “ at the Faculty of Political Science, University of Sarajevo,
•    Amendments to the curriculum of the first cycle of studies at the Faculty of Health Studies , University of Sarajevo ,
•    Changes to the curriculum of UNSA Faculty of Mechanical Engineering: Department of industrial engineering and management, Department of mechanical and manufacturing engineering and Department of mechanical structures,
•    Amendments to the curriculum of the Doctoral study in mathematical sciences in South-East Europe at the UNSA Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.
•    Amendments to the curriculum of the first cycle study program “Management “ at the Faculty of Public Administration in Sarajevo
•    Amendments to the curriculum of the second cycle study program of study program “Management” Faculty of Public Administration in Sarajevo.

The consent was given to Study for the establishment of sub organizational units - Institute of the Faculty of Transport and Communications, University of Sarajevo. Also, the approval was given to the Statute of the Faculty of Public Administration in Sarajevo.

The Senate adopted a draft text of an agreement between the University of Sarajevo and theological faculties in its composition on the regulation of the position of the Faculty of Islamic Studies in Sarajevo and the Faculty of Catholic Theology in Sarajevo, which enters the procedure of harmonizing the text of the agreement on teaching and scientific councils of the Faculty of Islamic Studies and the Faculty of Catholic Theology in Sarajevo.

The Senate adopted the report by the University Publishing Council, with the approval given to the two publications to be published as university editions.

The Senate adopted the Report of the UNSA Commission for the recognition of foreign higher education qualifications, as well as to the Commission's report on the proceedings of academic recognition.

Within the item “International cooperation”, the Senate gave approval to the signing:
•    Memorandum of Understanding between the University of Sarajevo and the Foundation for the improvement of human life (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia)
•    Protocol on Cooperation between the University of Sarajevo and the Istanbul University (Turkey)
•    Agreement on Cooperation between the University of Sarajevo and the National University of Science and Technology (Islamabad, Pakistan)
•    Agreement on Dual mentoring doctoral thesis for the candidate Ismar Imamovic from the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Sarajevo at the Université de Technologie de Compičgne ( France )

Senators were informed that the UNSA International Relations Office will organize the fifth Scholarship Fair, which will be held at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Sarajevo on 16 October 2014. Partners in the organization of the Fair are King Baudouin Foundation from Belgium and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Sarajevo.
