The 23rd UNSA Senate Session

 

The UNSA Senate held its 23rd session on June 25 of 2014 with 14 agenda items.

Senators were informed, at the meeting, with the activities related to the upcoming institutional accreditation of the University of Sarajevo, and with the visiting by the Commission for the University of Sarajevo‘s external evaluation from 30 June to 3 July 2014.

Senators adopted the proposal of the Financial Plan for the 2015, 2016 and 2017. The Financial Plan’s draft will be submitted to the UNSA Steering Committee for further adoption.

The Proposal for a Decision on Amending the Decision on approval of services, registration fees and other study costs at the University of Sarajevo and its Faculties and Academies was determined. The Decision’s Proposal will be sent to the Sarajevo Canton Government for the final decision.

UNSA Senate enacted a Decision to extend the deadline for making general and individual acts of the University of Sarajevo/organizational units (regulations, rules, etc...), for additional twelve months lasting to 28 June 2015. The decision was made in accordance with the recommendations of the Committee on normative questions of the UNSA Senate, bearing in mind the late formation of the UNSA Steering Committee Governing Board of the University of Sarajevo (the same constituted on 17th January 2014), as well as the omission of subordinate legislation of the competent KS Ministry of Education, Science and Youth, which made impossible drafting the general and individual acts of the University/organizational units within the timeframe established by Article 214 of the University Statute.

Within the implemented obligations provided for by the UNSA Statute, which stipulates the formation of Committees as expert and advisory bodies of the University Senate, at the session held, the composition of the Committee for International Cooperation, the Committee for funds and grants, the Committee for University recognition and the Committee for Sports and Physical education was determined.

At the session, 18 teachers from five UNSA organizational units were elected into higher academic titles.

UNSA Senate issued a decision on the call for the election of academic staff at School of Economics and Business, Faculty of Criminology and Security Studies, Faculty of Philosophy, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences and the Faculty of Dental Medicine with Clinics.

The list of candidates who meet the conditions of the contest for the election of the directors of the UNSA Oriental Institute was approved.

The approval was given to the engagement of teachers from other universities in the country and abroad.

At the Session, Decisions were also made for 26 candidates in the process of PhD acquiring at eleven Faculties.

Senate, under the item “Consents to curricula”, approved:
•    Changes to the Curriculum of the third cycle studies – PhD studies BOSNISTIC LINGUISTICS, UNSA Faculty of Philosophy;
•    The curriculum for first and second semester of doctoral studies at the UNSA Faculty of Dental Medicine;
•    Amendments to the curriculum for the first cycle of studies in at the Department of Computing and Informatics, UNSA Faculty of Electrical Engineering;
•    Amendments to the curriculum for the first cycle of studies in all departments of UNSA Faculty Electrical Engineering;
•    Changes to the curriculum at the "Department of mechanical structures," UNSA Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.

Senate, under the item “Announcing the competition for candidates registering for the third cycle study”, gave consent to:

•    a competition for student enrollment in third cycle of studies - doctoral program entitled “Biomedicine and Health” at the UNSA Faculty of Medicine in 2014/2015 academic year;
•    a competition for student enrollment in third cycle of studies - doctoral program entitled “Doctoral dentistry" at the UNSA Faculty of Dental Medicine in 2014/2015 academic year;
•    issuing repeated the call for the enrollment of students in third cycle of studies for doctoral program entitled “Pharmaceutical Research" at the UNSA Faculty of Pharmacy in 2014/2015 academic year;
•    a competition call for student enrollment in the third cycle - doctoral studies from BOSNISTIC LINGUISTICS, Department of Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian Language at the UNSA Faculty of Philosophy in the 2014/2015 academic year
•    a competition for the entry of the second generation of students at the third cycle of studies in line with the Bologna - doctoral studies Literature and Culture at the UNSA Faculty of Philosophy in the 2014/2015 academic year;
•    a competition for the entry of the second generation of students at the third cycle of studies in line with the Bologna - doctoral studies from the History (specializations in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the context of ancient Europe and the Mediterranean, History of Medieval Bosnia, History of Bosnia and Herzegovina during the Ottoman period (1463-1839), History of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the 19th and 20th centuries) at the UNSA Faculty of Philosophy in the 2014/2015 academic year;
•    a competition for the entry of the second generation of students at the third cycle of studies in line with the Bologna - doctoral studies in the stem field of  German language and German literature in the context of media culture, UNSA Faculty of Philosophy, in the 2014/2015 academic year;
•    a competition for student enrollment in the third cycle studies - doctoral studies at the UNSA Faculty of Electrical Engineering in 2014/2015;
•    a competition for the entry of the second generation of students at the third cycle of studies - doctoral studies at the UNSA Faculty of Criminology and Security Studies in the 2014/2015 academic year.

The ranking of candidates accepted at the third cycle of studies - doctoral studies entitled "Pharmaceutical Research" at the UNSA Faculty of Pharmacy was adopted.

The consent given to the education program in the field of victimology (ante-Bologna studies) as the part of LLL at the UNSA Faculty of Criminology and Security Studies.

Senators were informed about the activities on implementing Agreement on financing/co-financing of projects in the field of science relevant to the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and adopted the Report of the Commission for the allocation of the funds of the Federal Ministry of Education and Science concerning the results of the second internal call.

Within the item “International cooperation”, Senators were informed that at the meeting of 17 April 2014, UNSA Rector Prof. Dr. Muharram Avdispahic Dr. h. c. and Mr. Quan Xiaohui, director of the Office for International Cooperation, Northwest Normal University, China, signed a Letter of Intent in which they agreed that each on side together and systematically work to create conditions that would lead to the establishment of the Confucius Institutes in Bosnia and Herzegovina within the University of Sarajevo. Thai am of those institutes is promoting Chinese culture and language and strengthening cultural and educational cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of China.
The Senate supported the launch of activities in order to create conditions for the signing of the Treaty establishing Confucius Institute.

The Senate adopted the Report of the Commission for the recognition of higher education qualifications in Sarajevo.

At the Session, Senators were informed about the European Youth Summit, and the Conference marking the breakout of the WW1 entitled The Great War: Regional Approaches and Global Contexts. Senators were also informed about the International Conference analyzing the Great War entitled “Sarajevo Shots, 1914: Event. Narrative. Remembering", which brought together 100 scientists, researchers and students from 20 countries?

UNSA SPUS representatives the Senate about the completion of this year's University sports leagues (UNSA League).

Senators were informed that, as part of the implementation of the Tempus project BIHERIT, on 2 July of 2014, holding workshops for students and academic staff in the field of archeology and heritage at the UNSA Faculty of Philosophy is planned. In UNSA Rectorate on 3 July 2014, the final regional conference on the topic of teaching in the field of archeology in accordance to the Bologna process will be held. The aim of the workshop is to present the project to the general public, students, employees at the University of Sarajevo and public institutions. The regional conference will to present the experience in implementing the Bologna in the area of architecture and heritage, as well as the experiences of students through the project.
