The 8th BAM International Conference
European Guidelines for Cooperation between Libraries, Archives and Museums - BAM 2014 Held
The 8th international BAM conference - European Guidelines for Cooperation between Libraries, Archives and Museums took place on 10 and 11 October 2014. The conference was organized by the Association of Information Professional - Librarians, Archivists and Museologists with main subject “Service Quality and Standards.” The Conference’s first day held in the Gazi Husrev-Bey’s Library, UNSA affiliated institution, while the second day took place in Travnik.
UNSA Vice-Rector for International Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Ugo Vlaisavljevic opened the conference. In his speech, Vice-Rector Vlaisavljevic expressing his pleasure because this event gathered a large number of professionals - librarians, archivists and museuologists who presented their experiences and new ways of thinking regarding the issue of service quality, measurement and improvement of the quality, integration of library resources and their role in the university rankings, and the position of cultural institutions.
Peter Hernon, professor at the Graduate School of Library & Information Science Simmons College in Boston participated in the conference as a speaker. Peter Hernon is a prominent expert in the field of evaluation of library services and library management. He has written over 350 papers of which 52 are monographs. He was conferred with ALA's Highsmith Award winner for the best book in library and information science in 1999 (with Ellen Altman) and the 2010 ABC-CLIO / Greenwood Award for Best Book in Library Literature (with Robert E. Dugan and Danuta A. Nitecki).
The participants from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia, Slovenia, USA, the Netherlands, Italy and Hungary presented their papers. More than 100 participants took part in the Conference.
The aim of this year’s conference was to promote further cooperation between heritage institutions libraries, archives and museums in order to achieve a common mission - to protect and promote cultural and scientific heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The aim behind organizing the conference was to draw attention to the importance of the quality of services offered to users by heritage institutions in the 21st century. Also, it was pointed out that the standardization of heritage institutions’ operating is a priority in creating a quality educational environment.
Through numerous papers and presentations, the desire to encourage infrastructure rehabilitation of wide information community is expressed including the building of a unified and open information system in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The papers presented at this year's Conference will be published in the Book of Proceedings - BAM 2014.
