The 26th University of Sarajevo Senate Session Held 

 
The University of Sarajevo Senate held its regular 26th Session on 29 October 2014 with 14 agenda items.
Prof. Dr. Muharem Avdispahic, Dr. h. c., University of Sarajevo Rector, handed the Decision on the appointment of Prof. Dr. Zlatan Saric for the UNSA Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences Dean and Dr. Adnan Kadric for the UNSA Oriental Institute Director, at the Session.
Senators were informed about the organizing activities for the University of Sarajevo’s BA and MA Graduation and Diploma Awarding Ceremony that is scheduled to take place in the “Mirza Delibasic” Hall (Skenderija Center) on Saturday, 8 November 2014, starting at 11:00. Also, Senators are informed about the list of graduates in the 2013/2014 academic year who will, in accordance with the University of Sarajevo’s Rulebook on Awards, receive at the joint promotion ceremony the following awards: “University of Sarajevo’s Golden Badge”, “University of Sarajevo’s Silver Badge” and the “University of Sarajevo’s Charter.”
Prof. Dr. Ifet Mahmutovic, president of the University of Sarajevo Coordination Team and the University of Sarajevo’s Students Parliament were given the approval for receiving university recognition for undertaken activities with the aim of helping the flood stricken population in BiH.

Fifty-eight teachers from eleven Faculties and one Academy of the University of Sarajevo were elected into academic titles at the Senate session.

The consent was given for the second cycle of studies curriculum “Democracy and Human Rights in South East Europe” and the course "European Studies" in 2014/2015 study year and for the third cycle studies “Gender studies” for 2014/2015 academic  year at the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies, University of Sarajevo.
The University of Sarajevo Senate rendered a Decision to open the Call for Competition for electing faculty members at the following institutions: Faculties of Political Sciences, Criminology and Security Studies, Transport and Communications, Health Studies, Mechanical Engineering, Musical Academy, Agriculture and Food Sciences, Law, Veterinary Medicine and at the Oriental Institute.

The approval was given for the engagement of teachers from other universities from country and abroad at two Faculties, to the list of visiting professors at one Faculty, and to the granted equivalence for completed election at one of the University of Sarajevo’s Faculty.
At the Senate Session, decisions were made for 40 PhD candidates at 10 University of Sarajevo member institutions.
Within the agenda item “Approving the Curricula”, the UNSA Senate approved amendments to the curriculum for the first and second cycles of studies at the Department of History, Chair for Archaeology within the project BIHERIT Tempus project for 2014/2015 academic year at the Faculty of Philosophy in Sarajevo.
The Senate also gave approval to the opening call for competition for candidates enrolling in the third cycle of studies: Faculties of Health Studies, Philosophy, Musical Academy, Law and at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.

The Senate endorsed the proposal of the Faculty of Philosophy in Sarajevo to open Polish and Slovenian languages instructorship at the level elective course at the Faculty of Philosophy in Sarajevo.

The Senators were informed about the Internal call for submitting applications for the allocation of funds from the Federal Ministry of Education and Science for funding/co-funding projects in the field of science and equipping important scientific institutions for the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina from the budget for 2014.

The Senate adopted the opinion of the Committee on Legal Issues concerning the engagement of faculty members in special circumstances and election into the teaching-scientific/artistic titles within the approval’s context of the organizational units, which are home to the relevant scientific/artistic field. The Senate also adopted the opinion concerning the founding of Commission for reviewing the eligibility of subjects and candidates of the third cycle students at the University of Sarajevo Musical Academy.

At the Session, Senators adopted the table for the evaluation questionnaire that is based on the project Evaluation of Library and Information System at the University of Sarajevo and on assessing its performance, as well as on the completed assessment by the representatives of groups responsible for the Library Information System’s functioning at the University of Sarajevo.

Senators were also informed with the Report submitted by the Commission for Determining the State of Academic Network of the University of Sarajevo and Recommendations for improve the above said.

Within the agenda item “Student issues”, the financing of the UNSA Students’ Parliament was discussed.

Senators were informed about the implementation of the Fifth Fair Scholarships Fair that had been held at the UNSA Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Sarajevo on 16 October 2014, organized by the UNSA Department for International Cooperation in collaboration with the King Baudouin Foundation from Belgium, UNSA Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, and the portal Stipendije.ba as media partner.
Within the item “International Cooperation”, the Senate gave its consent to the implementation of the Orientation program for foreign students, teachers and staff in the 2014/2015 academic year.

The Senate adopted the Report of the UNSA Commission for the Recognition of Foreign Higher Education Qualifications, as well as the Report of the University of Sarajevo’s Commission for Academic Recognition of Higher Education Qualifications.
