6127 BA and MA University of Sarajevo Graduates Promoted

The promotion and diplomas awarding ceremony to the University of Sarajevo’s graduates was held in the “Mirza Delibasic” Hall in Sarajevo on Saturday 8 November 2014. Prof. Dr. Muharem Avdispahic, University of Sarajevo Rector and University of Sarajevo Vice-Rectors and UNSA Faculties and Academies Deans promoted 6127 graduates.

Rector, Prof. Dr. Muharem Avdispahic congratulated the BA and MA graduates upon successful completion of their studies at the largest and most prestigious University in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the city which was intended to grow into an academic center of this part of Europe by its  the greatest benefactor in 1537. “This is the moment when the University is stronger in the fullness of its mission, as well as being a place in which is active every area of fundamental knowledge. The modern development of Bosnia and Herzegovina is inseparable from the contributions that have been and still being given to the areas of science, art, economy, administration, culture in general, by professionals educated at the University of Sarajevo.” said Rector Avdispahic and pointed out that the University has in its concept the dimension of universality. He also added that the University is a place of theoretical and practical, a place of innovation and a place of interpretation

In relation to structural terms, the University of Sarajevo, with 25 Faculties and Academies and five Research Institutes, is a comprehensive institution of higher education and research, which develops humanities, social, medical, natural, technical and biotechnical sciences, fine arts, music and performing arts, offering to the society the possibility of a new quality of knowledge in a very demanding way similar to the daylight’s uniting of the spectrum.

“At the individual level, we believe that you, as our alumni, have obtained the appropriate level of knowledge to match your studies and understanding of problems of your profession, the ability to recognize, interpret and critical judge relevant facts, innovative application of skills you mastered. We also believe that you gained that particular skill gaining more in importance – your own autonomous training for dealing with future challenges. Of course, we are certain that there is present the ability to use your knowledge and experiences to transfer it and lead discussion backed by arguments both with experts and non-experts” said Rector Avdispahic in his address. He also added “As students of this University, regardless of your study program, you are educated to comprehend yourselves as Europeans in that sense that rose from the bright side of European tradition, to be those Europeans of that Europe which is open to respecting your dignity and our multi-layered identity. As professionals, I firmly believe you will contribute to our society to quickly follow such path”.

Pursuant to the University of Sarajevo’s Senate Decision, the most successful students of the first and second cycles of studies from each Faculty and Academy received special awards.

In the first cycle of studies, 23 graduates were awarded with the Golden Badge, the University of Sarajevo’s highest award. Silver Badge was awarded to 69 graduates, while three graduates received the Charter of the University of Sarajevo. The best student of the first cycle of studies, with an average grade of 9.89 is Aida Jazic from the Music Academy.

There are 74 the best among the students of the second cycle of studies. 20 MA graduates were awarded with the Golden Badge, 52 received the Silver Badge and two students received the Charter of the University of Sarajevo. In 2014, the best student of the second cycle of studies with average grade of 9.88 is Esma Sulejmanagic also from the Music Academy.

UNSA Rector, Prof. Dr. Muharem Avdispahic, awarded the best student of the first cycle studies Aida Jazic and the best student of the second cycle studies - Esma Sulejmanagic both from the Music Academy, the University of Sarajevo’s Golden Badge Award.

On behalf of students who received those special awards, but also on behalf of all of this year's UNSA graduates, Esma Sulejmanagic, the best student of the second cycle of studies made an address. In her address, she pointed out the following: “A part of the way that we have just crossed was certainly an interesting and dynamic one. In a specific way, it permanently marked all what we expect. The only certain thing is a bit scary suspense, an external circumstance over which we cannot have influence. The rest of our way ahead of us is hazy and not easily accessible. However, on the other hand, no one ever said it would be easy. After all the success that they are behind us, after a multitude of acquired knowledge and experience, and sophisticated capabilities, it seems devastating to me that in the first encounter with an obstacle just to raise our hands and give up. I believe that we know much and that we will have many more things to learn”.

At the ceremony, two special plaquettes of the University of Sarajevo were awarded to the UNSA Students’ Parliament for the actions taken in the spring of 2014, when assisting in clearing the damage induced by floods and to Prof. Dr. Ifet Mahmutovic, associate professor at the Faculty of Sports and Physical Education for the coordination of activities when assisting the population in flooded areas.

The promotion and the diplomas awarding ceremony was organized with the support of sponsors: VGT Insurance and media sponsors: Radio-Television of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Televizija Sarajevo, Radio Sarajevo and Student eFM radio.
