Discussing the Establishment of the Confucius Institute
at the University of Sarajevo
Rector of the University of Sarajevo Prof. Dr. Muharem Avdispahić, Dr. h. c. and UNSA Vice-Rectors Prof. Dr. Ugo Vlaisavljevic and Prof. Dr. Dzenan Djonlagic and Prof. Dr. Tian Shu, Northwest Normal University Vice-Rector, Mr. Quan Xiaohui, Northwest Normal University Director of the International Cooperation Office and Mrs. Mei Chief, Northwest Normal University, International Cooperation Office had a meeting in the UNSA Rectorate on Thursday 20 November 2014. The occasion for the meeting was the establishment of a Confucius Institute in Bosnia and Herzegovina within the University of Sarajevo with the goal of promoting the Chinese culture and language and strengthening the cultural and educational collaboration between B&H and People’s Republic China.
On a meeting of 17 April 2014 that took place in UNSA Rectorate, Rector Avdispahic and Mr. Xiaohui signed a Letter of Intention to invest mutually their efforts and work systematically on creating the conditions for the establishment of the Confucius Institute at the University of Sarajevo, with the aim of prompting the Chinese culture and strengthening the educational collaboration between B&H and People’s Republic China.
The Confucius Institutes as nonprofit organizations aim to contribute to better understanding of the Chinese language and culture among other peoples, to develop friendly relationships between the PR China and the rest of the world and to promote multiculturalism globally. At the present moment, more than 400 Confucius Institutes and 600 Confucius Classrooms are active in the world.
