The 29th UNSA Senate Session

 

The UNSA Senate held its 29th Session on 28 January 2015. At the session, Senate approved the election into higher academic titles for proposed candidates. The Senate also decided to run a call for competition for electing academic personnel at the following member institutions:  Academy of Fine Arts, Faculty of Architecture, School of Economics and Business, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Philosophy, Faculty of Islamic Sciences, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Faculty of Forestry and the UNSA Language Institute. The Senate approved the engagement of teachers from other universities from home and abroad on three UNSA Faculties. The approval was given for 43 candidates in the process of acquiring a PhD at eight Faculties and one Academy.

The Senate also approved the proposed amendments to curricula. The Senate also gave its consent to the proposed list of candidates to be enrolled in the third cycle of studies (doctoral) at the following members:  Faculty of Sport and Physical Education, Faculty of Health Studies, Faculty of Philosophy, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the Faculty of Education. The Senate also gave approval to the running of call for competition for enrolling in the third cycle of studies at UNSA Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.

At the session, the Senate elected a student member to the UNSA Steering Committee. Senators had previously adopted the Report of the Commission for the implementation of the election procedure and appointed the Commission members for the implementation of the voting procedure. After the voting procedure, the Senate elected the only people who run for the position: Amar Nurkovic, second cycle studies student at the UNSA School of Economics and Business. The mandate of the student representative in the Steering Committee is one (1) year.

At the Session, the UNSA Senate unanimously rejected the request of the Sarajevo Canton Ministry of Education, Science and Youth for transferring the property rights over the Bjelave Student Dormitories Pavilion 2 from the University of Sarajevo in favor of the Sarajevo Canton. The Senate also promptly rejected the Ministry's request for delivering the login data for accessing the University of Sarajevo’s integrated information system. The Senate reasons behind rejecting those requests were listed as being legally unfounded and contrary to the institutional autonomy of the University and the general social welfare.

The Senate approved the Report on the results of the second internal call for the allocation of funds of the Federal Ministry of Education and Science for funding/co-funding projects in the area of science and institutions equipping from the Budget for 2014.

The proposals of the Finance Committee got accepted. Senators got are informed about the responsibilities of organizational units in relating to the submitting of report on the activities for 2014, as well as the implementation of the activities concerning the adoption of general and individual acts in accordance with Art. 214 of the Senate Statute.

The Senate also approved the University of Sarajevo’s joining the  in the Alpine-Adriatic Rectors' Conference (AARC), as well as the signing of the Protocol on the exchange within the MEVLANA program between the University of Sarajevo and Dumlupinar University from Turkey.

The Senate adopted the report of the UNSA Publishing Committee and gave approval for publishing one book as a university release.

The Senate also adopted the report of the Commission for the Recognition Foreign of Higher Education Qualifications.

Senators were informed that about organizing an Open Lecture on the occasion of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day entitled “The Holocaust in Bosnia and Herzegovina”, with the following speakers: Prof. dr. Ugo Vlaisavljevic, University of Sarajevo Vice-Rector, Dr. Rasim Muratovic, Institute for Researching Crimes against Humanity and International Law Director, and
Dr. Elijas Tauber, senior researcher at the Institute for Researching Crimes against Humanity and International Law Director.

Additionally, the Senators were informed that the SAMED Congress (the first international congress of medical students and young doctors) will be held from 29 January to 1 February 2015. Apart from BH participants, 265 participants from 16 countries registered for participating making SAMED one of the biggest student congresses in Europe this year.
