The 31st UNSA Senate Session Held

 

The University in Sarajevo Senate held its regular 31st session on 25 March 2015 with 13 agenda items.

At the Session, Prof. Dr. Muharem Avdispahic, HonDSc, University of Sarajevo Rector presented the Appointment Decision for Prof. Dr. Rifat Skrijelj to the post of UNSA Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics Dean.

Senators discussed and unanimously adopted the UNSA Work Report for 2014.

At the Session, the proposed forms of University of Sarajevo’s plan and work in 2015 were discussed and forms for annual report on the work of the University of Sarajevo in 2015 suggested.

The UNSA Senate approved the proposal of the contract with the Theological Faculties - Faculty of Islamic Sciences and the Faculty of Catholic Theology, University of Sarajevo member institutions.

12 teachers from six Faculties and one Academy were elected into higher academic titles, and approval given for the elections at one institute.

The UNSA Senate decided to announce the competition call for electing academic staff at Academy of Performing Arts, Faculty of Architecture, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Criminalistics, Criminology and Security Studies, Faculty of Transport and Communications, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Medicine, Academy of Music, Faculty of Agriculture and Food Science and the Faculty of Law.

The curriculum for the third cycle of studies at the UNSA Faculty of Philosophy for 2014/2015 year was approved.

The equivalence of completed elections at the Faculty of Transport and Communications was approved and approval given for the engagement of visiting professors at the Faculty of Philosophy.

At the Session meeting, decisions were made for 27 candidates in the process of acquiring PhD at nine Faculties and one Academy.

The Senate gave the consent to:
•    Amendments to the curriculum for first and second cycle of studies in the Department of Philosophy, UNSA Faculty of Philosophy,
•    The curriculum of the first cycle of studies entitled “COMPUTER AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES”, Department of Communications, UNSA Faculty of Transport and Communications (2015/2016 study year),
•    amendments to the curriculum of the first cycle of studies at the Department of Automation and Electronics, Department of Power Engineering, Department of Computer Science and the Department of Telecommunications UNSA Faculty of Electrical Engineering.

The Senate gave final approval to the list of candidates for admission to the third cycle (PhD studies) for Faculty of Criminalistics, Criminology and Security Studies, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences and Faculty of Law.

The initiative for the establishment of a joint PhD studies Sociology at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Sarajevo and the Faculty for Education at the “Dzemal Bijedic” University of Mostar was supported.

The report the Board for Legal Issues was accepted.

Within the item “International cooperation”, Senators were informed about:
•    scholarships for doctoral students and post-doctoral student within the Cooperation Agreement between the University of Sarajevo and the Foundation for human life improving (Malaysia);
•    call of the European University Association for abstracts submission for the 10th European Forum for Quality Assurance (EQAF) to be held in London from 19 to 21 November 2015;
•    Statement on the transatlantic trade and investment in the Partnership and the Agreement on Trade in Services adopted by the Council of the European University Association;
•    Holding of the Alpbach Summer School on Entrepreneurship for PhD students and post-doctoral students (19-24 august 2015) - www.alpbach.org.

The Senate gave the consent to the signing of the Protocol on the exchange within the framework of MEVLANA program between the University of Sarajevo and Uludağ University in Turkey.

Senators were that the representatives of ELSEVIER / Scopus led by Mr. Catalin Teoharie, manager for the South-Eastern Europe, would visit the University of Sarajevo on 1 April 2015 to present the possibility of a trial access for members of the Bosnian national consortium to Scopus and Science Direct databases. Also, under very limited conditions, be given the option of using a SciVal database that tracks the university research performance, will be given.

In order to strengthen the cultural and educational cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the People's Republic of China and to promote Chinese culture and language, the Confucius Institute opening ceremony will take place in the Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies, University of Sarajevo on 2 April 2015. This Institute at the University of Sarajevo will be the first such institution in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Senate adopted the report submitted by the UNSA Publishing Board and approved four publications to be published as a university release.

The Senate adopted the report submitted by the Commission for the Recognition of Foreign Higher Education Qualifications and established the Commission for academic recognition of higher education qualifications.

Senators were informed that the Federal Civilian Protection HQs awarded the University of Sarajevo for the successful cooperation and contribution in building the protection system for rescuing people and material goods in the Federation. The University of Sarajevo also received the Letter of Gratitude from the Maglaj Municipality for the generous help during last year's disaster that occurred in the Maglaj Municipality.
