UNSA Peace and Progress Award Conferred upon Arne Johan Vetlesen, PhD

Arne Johan Vetlesen, PhD, University of Oslo professor was conferred with the UNSA Peace and Progress Award in recognition of his outstanding contribution in promoting the University of Sarajevo’s international reputation, peace building, humanism and progress in the world at the 33rd UNSA Senate Session on Wednesday, 27 May 2015 .
 
UNSA Rector, Prof. Dr. Muharem Avdisaphic, HonDSc conferred Arne Johan Vetlesen, PhD with the UNSA Peace and Progress Award.

Arne Johan Vetlesen is one of the most famous Norwegian philosophers. He is a professor of political philosophy at the University of Oslo. He is author of approx. twenty books and numerous papers in which he treats the concept of evil.

Due to his continues activities in researching the evil and human dignity, he was awarded in 2004 with the Fangenes testamentei (Prisoners' Testament Award) award by the Peace Research Institute Oslo. The Peace Research Institute Oslo bestows this recognition upon researchers who made significant contribution to fight against evil

Professor Vetlesen presented the scientific truth about happenings in Bosnia from 1992 to 1995 to scientific and general public. Up to now he has published the following books Evil and Human Agency, Understanding Collective Evildoing (2005), Smerte (2004), Moralens sjanse i markedets tidsalder (2003).  

Vetlesen in his essays made endeavors to utilize science as a medium for comprehending the barbaric outbursts and hidden criminal instincts ultimately leading to genocide. His ultimate goal was to provide insight into causes, goals and proportions of genocide, as well as to prevent genocide as the crime and evil of the highest order.
