The Start of Confucius Institute at the University of Sarajevo Activities Announced

On 7 December 2014, the agreement had been signed by the University of Sarajevo and the Confucius Institute’s HQs (HANBAN), while the opening ceremony for Confucius Institute at the University of Sarajevo took place on 2 April 2015.
Pursuant to the development of activities at the Confucius Institute at the University, a meeting between University of Sarajevo Rector, Prof. Dr. Muharem Avdispahic, HonDSc and Mr. Lao Weixin, Confucius Institute Co-director was arranged. Messrs. Faruk Boric, “Bosnian –Chinese Friendship” Chairman, Miroslav Zivanovic, Project Coordinator on behalf of the University of Sarajevo, and Chinese language instructors/volunteers: Niu Dinwei, Li Jinyan, Chen Lin and Chen Wenying also attended the meeting.

The plan and work activities of the Confucius Institute for 2016 were discussed during the course of the meeting. Participants expressed the hope that, through its activities, the Institute will contribute to the better understanding of Chinese language and culture and open new ways to enhance the excellent cooperation between the People’s Republic of China and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Confucius Institute is situated in the University of Sarajevo Campus and shares premises with the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies. The aim of establishing the Institute, in collaboration with the Normal University from the People's Republic of China, has been the wish to enhance cultural and educational cooperation between the P.R. China and Bosnia and Herzegovina and to promote the Chinese culture and language.

The Confucius Institutes’ mission, as non-profit educational institutions, is to contribute to better understanding of Chinese language and culture among other nations, develop friendly relations between the People's Republic of China and world countries, and encourage the development of multiculturalism. Today there are more than 1200 Confucius Institutes and classrooms working in 140 countries. The Confucius Institute at the University of Sarajevo is the first such institution in Bosnia and Herzegovina, was opened at the 20th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between the People’s Republic of China and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
