Ensuring the of Scientific Research Quality through Preventing
Plagiarism - Citation and Copyright Round Table

A round table discussion was held in the framework of the federally approved project Ensuring of the Scientific Research Quality through Preventing Plagiarism - Citation and Copyright at the University of Sarajevo on 20 April 2016.
The following participants shared their experience, thoughts and ideas on this topic:
-    Prof. Dr. Ugo Vlaisavljevic: The academic community and the challenges of plagiarism
-    Assist. Dr. Mario Hibert: Public domain, intellectual property, copyright and fair use
-    Prof. dr. Senadin Lavic: The role of reviews in preventing plagiarism
-    Dr. Beba Esrefa Rasidovic: Plagiarism in academic papers
-    Prof. Dr. Senada Dizdar: Information literacy and prevention of plagiarism
-    Amela Hadrovic: Copyright and legislation
-    Assist. Dr. Lejla Hajdarpasic: Publishing and open archives and copyright
-    Assist. Dr. Dusanka Boskovic: The use of plagiarism detecting software
-    Amina Bekto: E-publishing and copyright
Conclusions:
-    Plagiarism is not a phenomenon but a symptom, showing the need for making changes in education, from the current way of adopting the facts to the critical thinking development;
-    The introduction of information literacy as an elective subject at faculties was proposed, as well as the strengthened role of libraries, especially National and a university library of BiH, with the goal of achieving information literacy through the lifelong learning process;
-    Training for the application and use of software tools for detecting plagiarism, whose successful implementation is necessary needs the access to the relevant scientific publications databases. The reviewer’s key role in the process is emphasized, whose dedication and integrity are the foundation of a successful anti-plagiarism struggle;
-    Publishing, through its reviewing mechanisms, editorial boards and editorial boards, should constantly work on improving the quality of scientific production, especially in the regulation of open access journals, with the help of the Open Journal System;
-    Work in parallel on copyright protection;
-    Transparently publish all activities related to the occurrence and prevention of plagiarism, protection and respect of copyright, legal regulations and other documents that will inform the public about the issue and offer solutions and make visible activities taking place at the UNSA in order to prevent plagiarism and protect copyright.
