UNSA Rector Elected for the 2016-2020 Term in Office
The University of Sarajevo Senate’s Election Session chaired by a Senator, Prof. Dr. Ivan Cavlovic, Academy of Music dean, was held on Thursday 12 May 2016.
Pursuant to the Sarajevo Canton Law on Higher Education of Sarajevo and University of Sarajevo Statute, Prof. Dr. Rifat Skrijelj received the highest number of votes thus being elected to the position of the University of Sarajevo Rector for the 2016-2020 mandate period.
After adopting the Report of the Commission for the Rector’s Election for the 2016-2020 mandate period and the Voting Procedure, and the Commission appointed, candidates for rector’s Office made oral presentations of their programs for the mandate period.
Candidates for Rector’s Office were:
• Prof. Dr. Ejub Dzaferovic, full professor at the UNSA Faculty of Mechanical Engineering,
• Prof. Dr. Rifat Skrijelj, full professor at the UNSA Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics,
• Prof. Dr. Faruk Caklovica, full professor at the UNSA Faculty of Veterinary Medicine,
• Prof. Dr. Muharem Avdispahic, full professor at the UNSA Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.
Following the voting procedure, the Report of the Commission for the implementation of the Voting Procedure was adopted.
After the voting of 42 UNSA Senators, the Commission established the number of votes by each candidate received:
• Prof. Dr. Ejub Dzaferovic - 3 votes
• Prof. Dr. Rifat Skrijelj - 28 votes
• Prof. Dr. Faruk Caklovica - 3 votes
• Prof. Dr. Muharem Avdispahic - 7 votes
One ballot was invalid.
The mandate period of newly elected UNSA Rector, Prof. Dr. Rifat Skrijelj starts on 1 October 2016.
