The 44th UNSA Senate Session

The UNSA Senate held its regular 44th session with eighteen agenda items on 25 May2016.

At the Session, 15 teachers from eight UNSA Faculties were elected into higher academic titles and one into assistant title.

The UNSA Senate decided to announce the competition call for academic staff election at: Faculties of Economics and Business, Political Sciences, Philosophy, Mechanical Engineering, Law, Forestry and Veterinary Medicine in Sarajevo.

The approval was granted on the visiting professors engagement at the Faculty of Philosophy.

At the Session, Decisions were rendered for 35 candidates in the process of PhD acquiring at eleven Faculties and one Academy.

Under the item, “Curricula Approval”, the Senate gave consent to the proposed amendments.

The Senate approved changes to the UNSA Academic Calendar for 2015/2016 with the Calendar of Activities and implementation of study programs at the University of Sarajevo in July and September 2016.

The decision was made on awarding a University of Sarajevo honorary doctorate (doctor honoris causa Universitatis) upon Prof. Dr. Sonja Siljak-Yakovlev, CNRS (National Centre for Scientific Research) scientific advisor, University of Paris-Sud, Faculté des Sciences d'Orsay,  professor emeritus as acknowledgment of her promotion of scientific thought and outstanding contribution to the scientific progress of the UNSA academic staff and raising their referentiality and competence at international level.

The Senate approved the calling for internal call for applications for the allocation of funds to the Federal Ministry of Education and Science for funding/co-financing of projects in the field of science, science projects, equipping the institutions of importance for the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina from the Budget for 2016. The Senate also formed a commission for the allocation of Federal funds.

The Senate also adopted the report by the UNSA Committee for funds and scholarships regarding the “Academician Edhem Camo” Fund stating that twelve applications meet the conditions laid down.

The Senate approved the amendments to the enrolment plans for the first year of the first and second studies cycles at the University of Sarajevo in 2016/2017 for the Academy of Performing Arts and the Faculty of Political Sciences. The proposed amendments will be delivered to the Cantonal Ministry of Education, Science and Youth for further actions.

Within the item “Informatization of the University of Sarajevo”, Prof. Dr. Sasa Mrdovic, University Tele-Informatics Center director presented a report on the implementation of the UNSA Academic Network Development Strategy. The Senate fully supported the initiation of procurement procedures that are planned by the Strategy of development of the UNSA academic network. The approval was granted on the signing of the Memorandum on technical cooperation between the University of Sarajevo and BH Telecom that will be signed by UNSA Rector on behalf of the University of Sarajevo and deans/directors of UNSA organizational units. Senators were informed on the possibilities of purchasing Microsoft licenses for the University of Sarajevo and supported further activities.

At the Session, a written report by UNSA Rector, Prof. Dr. Muharem Avdispahic on the implemented activities regarding the implementation of the University of Sarajevo Library project realization was adopted.

The Senate adopted the Report of the Commission for the recognition of foreign higher education qualifications.

Within the item “International Cooperation”, the Senate supported Rector’s business trip to the Northwest Normal University, Lanzhou, Republic of China in order to continue the cooperation and development of Confucius Institute at the University of Sarajevo. The official travel by invitation of the Northwest Normal University, Republic of China will be realized in the period from 27. May - 04 June 2016.

The Senate gave consent to the conclusion of the Agreement on Academic Cooperation between the University of Sarajevo and Northwestern University, Evanston, USA.

The Senate adopted the Report of the University Publishing Council and approved two textbooks to be published as university publications. The Senate also rendered the Decision on replacement of a member of the Pregled’s Editorial board.

At the session, the Senate accepted the initiative of the UNSA Students’ Parliament, which plans to commemorate 31 May as a day of commemorating the war crime against non-Serbs in Prijedor. The Students’ Parliament’s initiative is addressed to all UNSA organizational to adequately commemorate this day.
